Flat Mary Road

Flat Mary Road are a Folk-Rock band from Philadelphia.  Their songs are a mix of 60′s-esque instrumentals reminiscent of bands like the Steve Miller Band and The Eagles and lyrics that tell stories of modern American life.  Or, as their myspace states, “We’re Flat Mary Road from Philadelphia. We’re interested in making good old American pop music and getting drink tickets at bars we play at.”

Thom McCarthy

From his myspace:

Hi, my name is Thom McCarthy, and I love to play music. I was born in a little coal mining town called Locust Gap, PA, but I moved to Philadelphia to pursue a pipe dream. It’s hard for me to say exactly what I sound like, but I’ve borrowed a bit from the influences of Brian Wilson, Otis Redding, Tom Waits, Hank Williams, and a healthy spoonful of Gypsy Jazz. I studied some classical guitar for a couple years at a University, decided that I liked it, but my true talents lie in composition and legible handwriting.

“..endearingly weird..”

“McCarthy is: (at once) angst-y, literate, earnest and sentimental…”
