It’s unusual for a new rock band to sell out their first performance, but then again, AUTOMATIC FIRE is not just another new rock band. Molded from some of the best bands to come out of the Philly rock scene, AUTOMATIC FIRE has all the makings of a supergroup: famous band mates, devoted fan base, and a commercial sound that still retains freshness and originality.

Fans came from far and wide to check out the new act from frontman WALT LAFTY, who previously gained global visibility and immense industry recognition as the leader of his former band, SILVERTIDE. That band spent more than two years touring the world, opening for Van Halen, Motley Crue, Velvet Revolver, Shinedown and many others. Walt personally made appearances in the U.S. and U.K. singing with living legend Carlos Santana.

For his new act, Walt recruited longtime collaborator and Silvertide bassist, BRIAN WEAVER to turn some of his old acoustic demo recordings into full fledged electric rock songs. With a keen ear for orchestration and a strong and unavoidable bass line, Brian was able to help Walt arrange those tracks into something much louder and more defined. Filled with new song ideas, they turned to fellow Philly rocker, ROBBIE BENNETT (AKA Evil Rob) for some much needed guitar. Evil Rob had spent the past few years playing with his band, PEPPER’S GHOST, and had recently joined Silvertide to rock the guitar for some of their famous live shows. Robbie’s brand of fresh effects and arrangements gave the band an intense sound. This intensity was ultimately matched by drummer BRIAN KILIAN – a longtime Philly musician who had been playing with various acts in Nashville since the early part of the decade.

When the four got together to test out this new sound, the result was undeniable: an aggressive mix of lyrics and music that fit perfectly into the modern rock genre. The name, AUTOMATIC FIRE, comes from that sense of aggression. It’s meant to imply something strong, forceful and perhaps a bit out of control. At the first performance, the tension was thick but the answer was clear. When AUTOMATIC FIRE took the stage, fans were met with a modern rock assault that didn’t let up. As the band ended their set and began meeting the crowd, they were met by something truly unexpected – lifelong fans for a band that had played it/’s first show.

Pawnshop Roses are Paul Keen, Kevin Bentley, Justin Monteleone, Mike Walsh and Zil. Their sound is comprised of well crafted songs in the singer/songwriter vein, laced with Saturday night guitars and swagger, played by guys with nothing to lose and everything to prove. Signed to Earvolution Records, a small indie label that shares the same ideas and visions as the band. The first full length record on Earvolution, “Let it Roll” was produced by Pete Donnelly of the Figgs (Amos Lee/G-Love/Graham Parker) at Milkboy Recording (Gomez/Townhall) with a couple song co-arrangements by noted alt-country artist Tom Gillam. Pete Donnelly adds some vocal, guitar and bass backing on a few tracks while Jonn Savannah (Van Morrison, Joe Cocker, Squeeze) sits in for piano on “Here We Go” and “Planning Out Your Heart.” The band recently recorded at the legendary Sun Recording Studios in Memphis. New EP “Versions” and the album “Let It Roll are currently available online at all major digital music stores (Itunes, Rhapsody, etc.)

We are Papa Midnight. We are a Philadelphia band on the rise looking to get our music out to the public

“PM” originally started with Josh Copskey and Jay Caucci playing original acoustic shows throughout the Delaware Valley in 2002. Wanting to expand their sound, they brought on board singer/songwriter Steve Smith in 2004. The trio went on to play for several years known as “In The Red”.

Fast forward to 2007; the band found themselves with a new name and a new sound. Papa Midnight was born. After a few rehearsals bass player, Zac Tait, and drummer, Chris Medlar, were added to form the official “PM”. With this lineup the group has been able to master their original sound and form a strong following in the Delaware Valley. After playing reputable venues such as The Pennant East, The Stone Pony, Doc Watsons, North Star Bar, Susquehanna Bank Center and being featured on WMMR’s Jaxsons Local shots as one of the top up and coming bands. Papa Midnight also performed on national television on Backstage with Barry Nolan in May08 and played a live studio performance at Radio 104.5 in July 08. July proved to be a great month, giving the band opportunities to play at Dave Matthews Band’s and Pearl Jams’s VIP parties at the Susquehanna Bank Center. PM’s single, Yarn, will be featured as a track in the up and coming movie ‘No Boundaries”. The movie is due out in February of ’09 and will be send to Sundance, Cannes and 10 other movie festivals around the world.
